Based in the heart of Lofoten, Norway, I am a landscape photographer with many years of experience behind the camera. I live here with my partner and our young daughter, surrounded by the landscapes that continue to inspire my work.
Outside photography, I work full-time as a physician in Moskenes Municipality. Whenever I am away from my day job, however, you will often find me somewhere in the mountains with my camera.
My photography takes me throughout the islands, from familiar landscapes to places beyond the usual routes. Rather than focusing solely on the classic photography locations, I am also drawn to less explored areas and new perspectives, capturing scenes that are rarely photographed.
I approach photography with a principle of keeping my images true to life. I want my images to reflect what I actually saw and experienced in the landscape.
Getting the image I have in mind often takes patience. Some photographs take months or even years to capture under the conditions I am looking for. I often return to the same location many times. I see persistence and careful planning as an essential part of landscape photography, combined with a healthy portion of luck — because ultimately, the weather is beyond our control.
Lofoten can be a demanding place to photograph, and I am out in all seasons and conditions. Reaching the places I want to photograph can mean travelling foot, skis or snowshoes, or using crampons and an ice axe when the terrain and conditions require it. The challenges and uncertainty are part of what makes the process meaningful (and sometimes scary) to me. Often, the photograph is not simply about finding a beautiful place, but about being there at the right moment and being willing to return until the landscape reveals itself in the way I had envisioned.
